WEST PALM BEACH, Florida– Florida parents took a seltzer bottle to the face this week when it was discovered that the beloved Noodles the Clown was dabbling in kiddie porn.
Noodle, aka, David Deyo, 43 a former Sunday school teacher, pleaded guilty this week to 14 counts of possessing child pornography. Deyo’s a former Sunday school teacher who moonlighted for children’s parties.
Deyo, a widower and father of two, was caught in the FBI’s national child pornography sweep, dubbed Operation Candyman — the name of an Internet discussion group where agents say child pornography was swapped internationally. Using the America Online screen name of “Paperlace01,” investigators said Deyo downloaded and arranged more than 100 pornographic pictures of underage girls.
Deyo pulled a Peter Townshend by telling investigators he was “investigating” such criminal activity, court records show. He was hit with a slew of charges, including possessing, trafficking and manufacturing child pornography.
The case was headed toward trial when Deyo decided to accept a plea bargain. He pleaded guilty to eight counts of manufacturing child pornography and one count of possessing it. Each manufacturing count carries a maximum 15-year prison term while the possession charge carries a 5-year maximum.
While it is rare for judges to run so many sentences back-to-back, it is conceivable that Deyo could be ordered to 125 years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
Deyo also faced scrutiny in 1999 when a woman who let Deyo baby-sit her 6-year-old girl told the Jupiter Police Department that Deyo had touched her daughter inappropriately.
Jupiter Detective Amy Facchine said the girl couldn’t give investigators a statement that would hold up in court and closed the case. It was reopened after Deyo was arrested on the child pornography charges, but Facchine said she’s been waiting for the federal case to resolve itself before proceeding with her case.
