Atlanta- The owner of chain of adult video stores across metro Atlanta was sentenced Monday to 46 months in federal prison for tax evasion.
Michael Morrison, 36, of Atlanta, who owns Focus Entertainment International, pleaded guilty last June to underreporting his corporate and personal income to avoid paying $1.4 million in taxes.
“I feel ashamed to be here,” Morrison told U.S. District Judge Willis Hunt before the sentence was handed down. “In this instance, I made a mistake.”
Morrison was convicted of armed bank robbery in California when he was 16. After serving his time, he attended Oglethorpe University and obtained a business degree.
Hunt told Morrison that he faced a relatively harsh sentence for the white-collar crime because of his prior record.
In past years, Morrison ran a number of adult video stores in the metro area, including a number of Inserection Adult Fantasy Stores in Fulton County.
As part of his plea bargain, Morrison agreed to pay back the IRS $1.4 million in restitution. He also has been cooperating with federal authorities in other cases, his lawyer said during Monday’s sentencing hearing.
