New York- Big Pussy apparently would rather take his chances winding up in the Big House than take a no-jail plea deal for allegedly slapping around his ex-fiancée.
Vincent Pastore, who played mob rat Sal (Big Pussy) Bonpensiero on “The Sopranos,” said yesterday he’s a standup guy – and no woman beater – in real life.
“I didn’t do it,” said the burly actor as he left Manhattan Supreme Court with a pack of reporters trailing him.
Pastore, 58, shocked prosecutors by shooting down their deal, which included his participation in a batterers’ program and five days of community service.
Defense lawyer Dominic Barbara said Pastore, who could face a year behind bars if convicted of misdemeanor assault charges, might take his chances with a jury. “We will have to wait and see what we decide to do,” Barbara said.
Pastore was charged last month after his 44-year-old fiancée, Lisa Regina, complained he roughed her up in the middle of a Little Italy street.
“I think she fears him,” Regina’s lawyer, Jeffrey Schwartz said yesterday. “She doesn’t know what he is capable of doing.”
Regina, who had been scheduled to marry Pastore in June, told cops she suffered a black eye and a bruised scalp when he threw a fit and dragged her out of his car for keeping him waiting outside her apartment.
But Pastore insisted yesterday, “I didn’t do anything.”
