Gresham, Ore. — Internet pioneer Todd Ostrer, a resident of Gresham,Oregon died October 7th at the age of 43.
Mr. Ostrer had been an entrepreneur virtually all of his life and exclusively on the Internet since commerce on the internet started. He is considered by many to be a pioneer in the industry.
He was born on December 15, 1967 in Seattle, Washington and was the son of Gerald and Suzanne (Stewart) Ostrer. He grew up in the Seattle/Bellevue area and moved to Vancouver to attend Hudson Bay High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1985.
Mr.Ostrer worked as a Chef at Orcas Island and as a Forest Fireman where he was a foreman and responsible for replanting trees after a fire. He also owned and operated several companies for over 17 years and was a pioneer in Internet Commerce. He married Mary Keller on July 31, 1993 in Reno, Nevada. They were later divorced but were still close until his passing.
He served in the Army to 1989. Once out of the military he was briefly a forest firefighter in the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. He has always been into computers since the first PC and turned his skills and knowledge to the Internet and Online Services to make his living, particularly in the Adult Online Services Industry and retail sales.
From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Ostrer started the company Rose City Online, Inc. Originally a BBS that served millions of adult pictures to a paid membership consumer base and eventually turned into one of the first ISP’s in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area. He also had one of the largest Internet retail stores for adult cd’s with “xxxcd.com” doing retail sales of adult cd’s and shipping them all over the world.
From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Ostrer was one of the first to start Internet/Web based Adult Online Services with “Adults.com” among many others. He was also one of the first to automate his fee based adult online services to consumer’s with automatic signup, real-time online credit card charging and password access.
From 1997 to Present, Mr. Ostrer helped start VTR, Inc. and ventured heavy into retail sales of adult sex toys on the World Wide Web with “sextoyworld.com” and “safesexmall.com”.
He has setup many retail stores on the net and runs several other stores for other companies. He has extensive knowledge of shopping cart software, merchant accounts and marketing strategies for use on the Internet.
From 1999 to Present, Mr. Ostrer started “WebInc.com”, providing website development and original artwork to mainstream and adult business professionals. His vision is to provide a “One-Stop Shopping” website where business to business (B2B) professionals can find anything and everything they need to start, maintain, expand or support their online ventures, services and retail stores.
He is survived by his daughters, Mandy Jalo of Corvallis, Joecee L. Keller of Gresham, Ashley Keller of Gresham, Larisa Keller of Gresham and Hannah Ostrer of Gresham, father, Gerald Ostrer sisters, Dina Ostrer of Bellevue and Melissa Hinze of Kirkland, brother, Kenneth D. Ostrer and step brother Aaron Allina of Colorado along with one grandson, Jayden Todd Montgomery.
