Marshall, Illinois- It`s been a year since the city of Marshall, Illinois took what it thought would be the final steps in relocating two X-Rated stores. A year ago the city of Marshall approved a rezoning of the area near where I-70 and Route 1 intersect.
The rezoning gave the stores until this week to relocate, but for now the stores are staying put. What the city thought was the end of the road for the adult video stores, is anything but. In fact, it`s the beginning of what the city believes will be a long legal battle.
The parent company of the stores has been granted a temporary restraining order, keeping the city from forcing the stores to move.
Marshall Mayor John Trefz said, “The city in no way wishes to put them out of business, but the term regulation, which is what you`ve heard me say before, we do have the right to regulate that type of activities. It`s gonna be a long process I`m sure and a very expensive process.”
If you`re wondering who will have to cover that expensive process, it will be the people of Marshall. The city has set up a legal fund allowing individuals to donate money to help the city fight it`s case.
