Diane Duke, Executive Director of the Free Speech Coalition, was a guest of the DirtyOldMen.tv iPod show this week. In the first installment of my report, Duke discussed Michael Weinstein of the AHF and some of the tactics pulled by that organization that weren’t exactly cricket in getting a condom mandate passed. www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=54838
In an aside, host Colin Rowntree discussed how some porn shoots have reverted back to the Seventies by flying stealthily under the radar.
“I’m on the east coast, but I have a lot of contact with people who are in the production end of things in the city of LA where it’s now a law that you have to pull a permit, you have to be wearing condoms, you have to be doing all these things,” Rowntree remarked.
“What I’m hearing from the street and from the people who are shooting, it’s almost like a blast from the past. Everybody meets at a Wal-Mart parking lot, gets into three or four different vehicles that all take separate routes to an undisclosed location where they’re going to shoot some scenes.
“As soon as all of the performers and the crew get in the car, their cellphones are taken away from them; the GPS is shut off so no one can see where they are. They go in, they shoot, they get the hell out. It’s very, very much like the Boogie Nights era again.
“One of the performers- she said it’s not fun; it’s not conducive to shooting scenes because people are peeking out the window every time they hear a car go by. It’s terrifying.”
Duke said she didn’t know how common that situation was.
“We still have studios and sound stages where they can perform without having to worry about a permit. In all honesty, the implementation of this has not been set yet so there’s no way for them to enforce it. It hasn’t been enforced yet.”
Duke reported that she went to a City Council meeting where the city administrator had asked for a 90-day extension.
“He was frustrated,” said Duke.
“He doesn’t see a way to do this.”
No one, continued Duke, is set up for enforcement of the mandate including the police, fire departments and Film LA.
“They can’t figure out how to implement this. It’s going to cost an absolute fortune to implement this. It’s going to cost taxpayer dollars to implement this. No one has any money; nobody has any desire to implement this. They all realize how ridiculous it is. That is so important for people to understand- that the City Council of LA has passed a law because they didn’t want to spend $4.4M to let the voters decide.”
