from www.latimes.com – A teacher’s aide at a San Dimas school was arrested this week for allegedly having a sexual relationship that resulted in a child with a 16-year-old student, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Mandy Morales, 31, an aide at the McKinley Children’s Center, Canyon View School in San Dimas was arrested at her residence on suspicion of having sex with a minor, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The relationship, which resulted in the victim fathering a child, started in 2011 when the student was 16 years old, the department said.
The case began when Morales’ journal, which detailed an ongoing relationship with the victim, was found at the Canyon View School, the department said. Morales has been placed on administrative leave.
The private K-12 school, a part of the McKinley Children’s Center, provides special education services to students ages 5 to 22, according to the center’s website. Enrollment was 145 students from 2010 to 2011, according to the school’s Accountability Report Card.
Morales was booked at the San Dimas sheriff’s station and was released after posting $50,000 bail.
Morales’ arrest comes days after a Redlands teacher was arrested and charged with a similar crime.
Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, was arrested July 1 on suspicion of having sex repeatedly with a student at Citrus Valley High School. She gave birth last month to a child fathered by the now-17-year-old student. After her arrest, two other former students came forward, saying they had sex with her during her six-year tenure at Redlands Unified School District.
She was charged Monday with 41 felony counts of sexual intercourse and oral copulation in connection with three boys.
