About "Haunted"

"Haunted" is described as an erotic thriller directed by Mahx Capacity. The film explores how "ghosts of the queer community’s past," including the AIDS crisis, echo in present-day queer and trans sex. According to a representative, the story centers on a team of documentary filmmakers who investigate ghosts as metaphors for grief within New York’s queer community and unexpectedly encounter a literal haunting.

The plot synopsis details that the film follows filmmakers Sam, Jane, and June on their latest project. The team is divided on whether they are researching queer legacies of loss or searching for literal ghosts. A "lustful, trickster spirit" then disrupts the situation with a "psychosexual haunting."

Carmen Maria Machado, known for "In the Dream House" and "Her Body and Other Parties," wrote "Haunted." This film is the first in AORTA’s Induction Series, a program designed to invite "visionary thinkers" to collaborate on explicit work. A studio representative stated that the Induction Series aims to ignite conversations about pornography's historical role as a cultural instigator, media of merit, and art form. The series uses explicit queer sex as a tool for telling queer and trans stories in an era of increasing repression. The film "Haunted" utilizes the erotic thriller genre to explore its themes, centering authentic queer identities and pleasure without sanitizing or fetishizing.

Mahx Capacity, AORTA’s creative director, commented on queer porn, stating that it "goes beyond a niche of the mainstream adult industry" and is a "fundamentally different genre." Capacity added that for queer people, porn "is (and always was) liberatory political praxis — a place where the community’s joy, grief, struggle, celebration, and history are synthesized into an embodied, cathartic practice."
