from www.sportsgrid.com – Yesterday, porn star/director Joanna Angel [pictured] tweeted, “It’s definitely going to be a 20 hour day on set and I’m excited about it!” The fact that porn shoots can go for longer than two hours (stamina!) is news to me.
This comes on the heels of Dutch porn star Bobbi Eden’s promise to give blowies to all 101,587 of her Twitter followers if the Netherlands won the World Cup (her jaw is thanking the Spanish). Both of these feats (the 20 hour shoot and the hypothetical blowie bonanza) no doubt require some semblance of athleticism. But does that mean that porn stars are athletes?
No. A 20-hour porn shoot is probably incredibly grueling, and is arguably the physical equivalent two-a-day workouts in NFL training camps. But while all of that bumping and grinding certainly requires a strong core, porn stars generally aren’t competing with each other. And since that is what defines athletics (participating in competition through sport), it means porn stars aren’t athletes.
But sometimes the opposite is true. Athletes have been known to cross over into porn, usually before they are famous and generally when they’re strapped for cash. Here are some of the more famous examples:
– Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan were two wrestlers from the University of Nebraska. That was until they were kicked off the team for doing a gay photo shoot on fratmen.tv. But don’t worry, one of them went undefeated at his new school.
– Eva Roob was a successful midfielder on a German women’s soccer team, but she wasn’t making enough money so she took a second job. That part-time gig? Yup. Dirty movies.
– Kazuhito Tadano was a much-hyped pitching prospect in Japan until, BUM BUM BUM – he appeared in a gay porno. Tadano was then blacklisted from playing professional baseball in Japan. But luckily for him America is a land of opportunity, and he was signed by the Cleveland Indians.
– When Brandy Blair’s contract as an Atlanta Hawks team dancer ended, she decided to try out porn. Her reasoning? “I had always been reserved sexually,” she said. “I thought I’d give it a try.” Hey, why not?
– Although he isn’t a porn star, apparently Peja Stojakovic could be one if he wanted to… Long-range specialist! HUZZAH!
So, what are the odds that a famous athlete would cross over into adult entertainment in the prime of his or her career? Not high, unless the movie in question has a high enough budget to take on a $20 million contract. Although, as long as A-Rod is hanging centaur portraits above his bed, I guess anything is possible.
