Miami- MIAMI Police want to know why a man [pictured on surveillance cameras] walked into a Bird Road adult book store, apologized to a clerk on duty, and then, drenched the place with a flammable liquid and set the store full of people on fire. First, though, they have to find him.
Security cameras caught the frightening scene at the Bird Road Adult Shop, at SW 74th avenue, around 3:30 am on August 12th. Investigators say the man walked up to a clerk and said he was sorry, that he had a guilty conscience, but he was going to have to burn the place down.
As the clerk watched in horror, the man then dumped a flammable liquid into the aisles, and into his video viewing booth, and then set the liquid on fire.
The clerk tried to pull the man out of the booth, but he continued to spread flammable liquid, and set the rest of the shop on fire.
As flames spread around the store, customers and employees fled, and in the confusion, the man who set the fire disappeared. Police are looking for him, and at this point, have no idea why the man wanted to torch the store.
Arson of an occupied building can carry a life prison sentence.
Police are asking for help in identifying the suspect. No explanation was offered as to why it had taken more than a week to release the surveillance video.
