DEKALB, ILL—Lap dancing isn’t among the accepted methods of payments for Illinois attorneys as Scott Erwin learned.
Erwin has been suspended from practicing law for 15 months for accepting nude dances from a client in exchange for payment for legal fees.
The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission meted out the disciplinary action after learning that Erwin and a client who was employed as an exotic dancer at a strip club called Heartbreakers had agreed that she would perform nude for him in his office. He credited her legal bill $534 but her bill had reached $7,000.
According to commission, the dancer claimed that Erwin had touched her inappropriately during the dance and she filed a complaint against him for sexual assault. Erwin denied the allegations and no criminal charge were lodged against him following a grand jury investigation.
According to the determination, on several occasions from February to June in 2002, the client went to Erwin’s office, stripped and danced for him for half-hour sessions.
According to the report, the woman is no longer an exotic dancer. She is now a real estate agent, married with three children.
