from www.myfoxdc.com – – A state lawmaker in Australia resigned from his cabinet post Tuesday after admitting to visiting adult and gaming websites on his official computer, The (Sydney) Daily Telegraph reported.
New South Wales Premier Kristina Keneally apologized for the behavior of Ports Minister Paul McLeay.
“Mr McLeay this morning advised the Premier that he had used a computer supplied by the parliament to visit gambling and adult sites. Mr McLeay immediately accepted the Premier’s request to resign,” her statement said.
“This behavior is not the standard I expect of a minister. I have made clear to Mr McLeay that I expect ministers to use the resources of office appropriately.
“Some people may choose to undertake similar activities in their personal lives, but I cannot condone the use of parliamentary resources by a minister in this way.”
McLeay, the Labor member for Heathcote in Sydney’s south, was elected to parliament in 2003. He was elevated to the ministry in November last year.
He is the fifth minister to resign from Keneally’s government this year.
