from www.bizjournals.com – Major League Baseball and the Arizona Diamondbacks routinely pride themselves as being a family-friendly form of entertainment, especially compared to more adult-oriented and beer drinking-oriented sports such as football or ultimate fighting.
Kids racing in hot dog costumes, a playground area and “Madagascar” sound track songs are all staples at Chase Field. You won’t find any of that at NFL venues.
So, it was a little bit of a surprise to baseball fans exiting Chase Field last night after the D-backs win to see more than a couple of bars and strip clubs handing out cards for free admission or other promotions. The strip club and bar promoters were across the street from Chase Field and were, of course, not sanctioned by the D-backs.
Arizona Cardinals football games — with a majority male and beer-drinking audience — might have been a better venue for the marketing efforts by the gentleman’s clubs and bars.
The D-backs crowd last night included plenty of little kids and grandmothers who probably aren’t the target audience for the clubs. However, that promotional effort after the baseball game last night adds to the vision of more “24/7” vibe for downtown Phoenix.
Which would you rather see? A little more nightlife — even if it’s a bit racy — or keep the vibe family-friendly? Let us know in the comments below.
