Porn Valley- “We’ve got three or four titles coming out in August, and they’re big films,” announces Ed Parry of Bryanston Distributing.
Bryanston is the mainstream sister company of Arrow Productions, www.xxxdeepthroat.com
Among its current slate of titles Bryanston’s planning the re-release of the highly controversial Coonskin, a film written and directed by Ralph Bakshi which first came out in 1975 and was greeted as a racist document. It’s about an African American rabbit, fox, and bear who rise to the top of the organized crime racket in Harlem. Parry hints that a very well-known director might be involved in the marketing of the film but didn’t want to go beyond that to say who it was.
“I depends on his price,” quips Parry. “But generally speaking the B-market is very tough.”
Parry’s also got Savage Streets, a pants down, let’s get ready to rumble, dope dealing LA street punk extravaganza produced by the late Jerry Zimmerman who used to be in the adult industry. It stars Linda Blair.
“We’ve also got that coming out in August and she’s done a commentary for us,” says Parry. “And we’ve got two other films like that- slasher/horror Friday the 13th-type things. Those were great deals for us.”
On the adult side of the market, Parry says Deep Throat continues to be its own unique self-sustaining franchise.
“Deep Throat’s always selling well,” he says. “That’s the most amazing thing. It keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. The good thing about Arrow is that it has those classics. The way it is now, it’s not worth making more titles. I‘ve read on your site where some new titles are only selling 300 to 500 pieces. There’s no point in putting new titles out.”
