SAN DIEGO – from www.kusi.com – State regulators suspended alcohol sales at a Kearny Mesa nude-entertainment club for 30 days due to alleged violations, including on-site drug-dealing and lewd conduct by dancers.

The disciplinary actions against Pure Platinum in the 4000 block of Kearny Mesa Road stemmed from a three-week undercover operation in January 2009, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The business has been fighting the suspension order for the last three years, taking its appeal all the way to the state Supreme Court, which denied it late last month, ABC spokeswoman Jennifer Hill said.

During the investigation, plainclothes agents posing as patrons observed at least three nude dancers engaging in prohibited behavior, including touching of customers and simulated sex acts, according to Hill.

Employees also took part in “the purchase, negotiations for purchase and furnishing” of psilocybin, commonly known as hallucinogenic mushrooms, and cocaine, the state agency alleged. At least one worker was arrested, Hill said.

The licensee told ABC personnel this morning that he intended to close the business during the suspension period, saying it would not be profitable to run it without alcohol sales, Hill said.

Last June, the state agency suspended the alcohol license of a Pure Platinum location on Pacific Highway at Laurel Street, near Lindbergh Field.

The ABC’s enforcement actions are “complaint driven,” Hill said.
