Louisville, Ky — Pornography and adult oriented businesses are grabbing much attention in the city of Louisville these days. On Saturday, a community meeting entitled “the Power of One” was held to rally about 100 citizens to fight pornography any way you can.
Among the people at the meeting, Phil Buress who says, years ago, he was a porn addict. Now he fights adult businesses in Cincinnati and says similar efforts can work in Metro Louisville.
Buress made his simple point at the Southeast Christian Church on Saturday. He founded the Citizens for Community Values 21 years ago. “In Cincinnati, we do not have any strip clubs or full blown bookstores and that includes the northern part of Kentucky.
Buress says the people who were at the meeting are the secret to success.
Others agreed.
“The worst thing we can do is nothing,” said Larry Dennison of Cooper Chapel Baptist Church. “Even though at this point we may not know what course of action to take.”
“As a woman, it’s time all women standup and say we’ve had enough of this,” says Cindee Coffee who organized the meeting.
Phil Buress says what citizens need to know is how to use zoning laws and boycotting to squeeze pornography outlets from a community. He maintains it is a struggle against human nature.
He adds another way citizens can fight back is with their pocketbook. In Cincinnati, a website has been set up called cleanhotels.com. It lists all area hotels that do not offer in-room pornography.
