posted on www.inforum.com – I am a mom of two children who has been job-searching for the past couple of weeks. I ran into an ad on Craigslist.com to fill an office position for a day care paying $14 to $17 an hour, which I thought was the best thing I’ve ever heard for a day care office manager! So, of course I instantly e-mailed the “reply to” e-mail and attached my resume and a letter of interest in the position.
Within the day, I received an e-mail back from the person letting me know that they had reviewed my resume and had great interest in setting up an interview with me. They stated that in order to do so, since I would be working with and around children, I would have to go to the National Sex Offender and Criminal Background Organization and verify myself with them.
The Web site was nsocbo.org. He said as soon as that was complete they would notify him (as you need to enter why you are accessing the Web site) and then he would be able to continue with setting up an interview time with me.
I went to the Web site and starting putting in all my information. I got to step four, which asks for a debit or credit card to verify you are the person you say you are. So, I continued to do so, but before I pressed submit I decided to read the terms and conditions, which I never do to Web sites I trust.
What do you know … I am actually submitting my credit card information to subscribe to a porn Web site. I was so appalled by what I had almost just put myself through. I immediately went back to Craigslist.com, saved the ad, saved my e-mails and contacted a state investigator about the information. The advice she gave me was to contact Craigslist to pull the ad.
I did that but am still worried that there is an active post for a job opening for a day care that is scamming people to sign up to porn for $40 a month! This needs to be told to all the people of the Red River Valley. I cannot believe it is this easy to scam people and put children in the middle of it. The day care was supposedly called TKO Sunshine Childcare. Yeah, right.
