Dirty Bob writes: This has gone far enough and it is time to clear things up. Feel free to let everyone know that, contrary to Bill Margold’s recent diatribes on your site, the XRCO is thriving quite well, thank you, without his presence or the acquired taste of the late Jim Holliday’s polished insouciance.
The XRCO did not, as Margold stated “die with Holliday” – whose sole duty as “Historian” was to recommend people, in his favor at the time, to be inducted in the XRCO Hall of Fame. Nor will it fade without Margold who took over for Holliday in this capacity. In fact, the XRCO has expanded it’s professional membership to include Editors at various adult publications, select Internet reviewers, and some Euro confreres – all of whom are very qualified and deserving of membership. There are still about 25 categories which is roughly the same number as, say, ten years ago and many are the same as when it was founded in 1984. We also have double the number of members today as compared to a few years ago. And enough is enough: Margold keeps bringing up Richard Pacheco not bothering to show up to be inducted in the Hall of Fame earlier this year. Why he phrases it this way is a mystery; Pacheco was bedridden that entire week and unable to attend and, honestly, devastated for missing it. It is no secret that Pacheco would not have been inducted had Holliday still been around – apparently there was some bad blood or history between the two – but that is long past and Pacheco is now in the H of F and rightly so. Also, Margold still feels that anyone working at AVN should be eliminated from the XRCO. Which is ridiculous. For the record, only a few select people at AVN are voting members, and rightly so as they are some of the highest qualified reviewers out there, and (yes, I checked!) there has never been any form of voting block or coalition in any of the XRCO categories by anyone working there or at any one particular publication. I still like Margold, and am sorry that he decided to “divorce himself from the XRCO”, but I am certain that it will still continue to do quite well. Side note: The Century Club, which has been the location for the annual XRCO Awards Show for a number of years, has recently closed. We are open to suggestions for a new location beginning with the 2007 Show.
