TOPEKA, Kan. from www.businessweek.com – Legislation in Kansas to impose new restrictions on strip clubs, adult stores and other sexually oriented businesses faces an uncertain future.
Supporters tried to force a vote late Tuesday night in the Senate, but it postponed a discussion until April 28, when lawmakers return from their annual spring break.
The House already has approved a measure to prohibit sexually oriented businesses from locating within 1,000 feet of schools, libraries, public parks, licensed day-care centers and houses of worship.
Under that plan, dancers at strip clubs would have to remain seminude — and 6 feet away from patrons.
Three senators and three House members were talking about drafting an alternative, but the Senate’s negotiators questioned whether such issues should be left to local governments.
