WINTER HAVEN – from www.myfoxtampabay.com – Deputies in Polk County say a 20-year-old man used MySpace.com to find women to sexually batter.
Travis Lane Bragg of Winter Haven was arrested over the weekend and charged with two counts of sexual battery.
Early Saturday morning, deputies say, detectives responded to Winter Haven Hospital to interview a 19-year-old female who told them she had been sexually battered by Bragg.
The woman told detectives she met Bragg on MySpace and developed a friendship. She said Bragg came over to her house Friday night and forced her to have sex against her will.
Detectives say a similar incident had occurred with a different victim in May 2008. In that case, Bragg allegedly used MySpace to strike up a relationship with a 19-year-old Lake Alfred woman.
After a shopping trip together, detectives say, Bragg drove the victim to an isolated area and had sex with her despite her protests for him to stop.
Because the woman was uncooperative in the 2008 case, detectives had nothing further to investigate and the case was closed. However, after learning about the second case, the woman decided to cooperate and provided a sworn statement about the 2008 incident.
“With two victims coming forward, we’ve learned the Bragg has used a social media site to lure his victims,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a press release. “And now we need the public’s help — there may be other victims and we want to hear from them.”
