from www.online.wsj.com – Police say a 45-year-old man has been arrested on rape charges after a Wisconsin woman said she was held in his New York City apartment as a sex slave for eight days.

Police say the two met while she searched online for housing through Craigslist. He told her she could live in his apartment for free if she cooked and cleaned.

The woman told police that she was handcuffed and raped repeatedly. She said she had a job as a chef, and was allowed out to work at least once. But she said she was handcuffed again when she returned.

The woman finally emailed her mother in Wisconsin, who called police.

The NYPD said the man, John Hopkins, was being held. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
