SHERMAN OAKS – The Southern California porn industry is reeling after an actor and actress tested positive for the virus that causes AIDS.
The news has prompted adult movie producers to shut down sets and dozens of performers are under voluntary quarantine. An Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation spokeswoman says the unidentified male performer tested positive Friday for H-I-V. A follow-up test Monday confirmed it.
The industry news magazine AVN says the actress had been involved in a scene involving unprotected sex, and had been in the adult film industry for only three months.
AVN says the voluntary moratorium will last until June eighth.
It’s unclear how much impact the work stoppage will have on the multi-billion-dollar a-year porn industry, which is centered in the San Fernando Valley.
