from www.katu.com – A 51-year-old Albany woman turned herself in to police after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a high school boy and sending explicit text messages to him and two more boys.
Detectives started investigating Heidi Hyre in February after rumors started circulating at South Albany High School about inappropriate relationships, an Albany Police spokesman said.
Hyre was arrested after turning herself in on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Lt. Brad Liles, detectives interviewed three South Albany students who said they exchanged in sexually explicit text messages with Hyre.
One of the boys also said he had a sexual encounter with Hyre in her car in December 2011. They were parked about two miles from the high school, Liles said.
All three students were 17 when police say the incidents occurred.
Hyre worked as a library aide at the high school. She has worked for the school district for the past four years, Liles said.
Hyre grew up in Albany and is the mother of two college kids.
Craig Koontz, who lives next door to Hyre and her husband, said the allegations seem completely out of character for Hyre. He said she’s friendly and takes care of neighbors’ pets.
Hyre now faces several criminal charges including using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, encouraging child sex abuse, luring a minor, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor and third-degree sex abuse.
South Albany’s principal said there is no reason to believe any other students were abused, but he’s contacting parents and students to make sure there are no more victims. He said the superintendent will have more to say about the case Wednesday morning.
