Springfield MO – A Greene County judge ordered a former teacher to post a $75,000 bond after hearing allegations that Alison Peck violated her probation for statutory rape. Circuit Judge Calvin Holden said he believes Peck is a “danger to society” who has done nothing to rehabilitate herself after being convicted in three counties for having sex with one of her 16-year-old students in the winter and spring of 2009.

Holden scheduled a hearing on Friday after a state probation and parole officer filed a report that says Peck violated her probation by failing to register as a sex offender every 90 days as required by law; failing to register as a sex offender within three days of moving to a new home in Springfield, which is another part of the state law; for using illegal drugs; and for failing to complete a sex offender counseling program.

Because Peck has a new defense attorney, Anissa Bluebaum, who said she hadn’t had time to prepare Peck’s defense, Holden continued the hearing on the probation violation allegations until March 25. If Holden finds she violated her probation on her statutory rape conviction in Greene County, he could impose the five-year prison sentence that was suspended in lieu of her probation. He could also order 120 days of shock prison time, followed by a continuation of her probation.

Peck also faces probation violation hearings next month in both Dade and Lawrence counties. Judges in those counties will make independent judgments about those probation violation allegations, and whether to send Peck to prison instead of continuing her probation. Lawrence County prosecutors have drawn up papers for revocation of Peck’s probation.

After the hearing, Holden ordered Greene County sheriff’s deputies to take the former Greenfield High School band teacher to jail and set her bond at $75,000, of which she would have to post 10 percent, or $7,500. The bond is to make sure she shows up for her hearings.

Peck pleaded guilty in late 2009 in Lawrence, Dade and Greene counties for her trysts with a student at her former home in Mount Vernon, in a vehicle in a rural area, and in a motel room in Springfield. She lost her job and her state teaching certificate, and has been earning money as a member of a band. She now lives in Springfield.

Holden scheduled a hearing for next Friday on Peck’s attorney’s motion to reduce her bond. Bluebaum said Peck had already posted about $37,000 worth of bonds on previous cases, so she felt Peck has enough incentive to show up for her hearings. Even if Peck were able to post the $75,000 bond, Holden said he would use the hearing next Friday to put new conditions on that bond.

Peck faces two separate criminal cases, one filed in December and one filed last week, for failing to register as a sex offender with the sheriff’s department as required by law. Those cases are before Associate Circuit Judge Jason Brown. If she’s convicted of those charges, she could face prison sentences as long as four years on each of them.

Peck did register with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Feb. 4; she was first required to register in December of ’09 after receiving probation.
