from www.nj.com – A 32-year-old teacher at Parsippany Hills High School in Morris County was arrested yesterday for allegedly carrying on a six-month sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student, authorities said.
Jenna Leahey, who is also the coach of the school’s field hockey team, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact, and was being held at the Morris County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Frederic Knapp said in a statement.
Leahey allegedly began exchanging sexually explicit text messages with the student in late January, according to Knapp, who said she later sent lewd pictures of herself to him. The pair later kissed and engaged in further sex acts until Thursday, when the teenager told another staff member at the high school, Knapp said.
If Leahey can post bail, she will be ordered to have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, Knapp said. The victim’s identity was withheld because of his age an the nature of the alleged crime.
Knapp said the school is assisting in the investigation.
John Fitzsimons, the interim superintendent of the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, said the district was “saddened by this incident.”
“Being a criminal complaint, and on the advice of counsel, we can offer no comment,” he said in a telephone interview.
Fitzsimons would not elaborate on Leahey’s job status. Public records indicate she has worked for the district for just over five years.
Leahey was an English teacher at the school who became the field hockey coach in September 2012. The Vikings team went 0-19 during the fall season.
