New Jersey – from www.njherald.com – A 25-year-old former student-teacher at Frankford School faces four years in prison after admitting she had sex with an eighth-grade boy during her term at the school in early 2009.

Lindsay M. Massaro [pictured], 25, pleaded guilty Monday at state Superior Court in Newton to one count of sexual assault, a second-degree crime. She must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and be subject to parole supervision for life.

In court, Massaro said she engaged in acts of sexual penetration with the boy in Frankford and Branchville between Feb. 1, 2009, and March 30, 2009.

Assistant Prosecutor Francis Koch will recommend a four-year prison term under the deal, with no period of parole ineligibility.

The prosecution’s case against Massaro was supported by her confession and statements from the alleged victim and a third-party witness.

Judge N. Peter Conforti set a tentative sentencing date of April 15, pending a report from the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center in Avenel on whether Massaro is deemed a compulsive or repetitive offender.

Massaro had not received her teacher’s certificate by the time of the crime. Her conviction, the judge noted, will adversely affect her ability to obtain one.

“Yes, I understand that,” Massaro said.

Frankford School cut ties with Massaro and sent a letter home to parents after her arrest March 30, 2009. Massaro had been assigned to an eighth-grade class, five days per week, during the spring term.

Previously, she had successfully completed a student-teaching assignment with sixth-graders at Great Meadows Middle School in Independence.

Massaro attempted to enroll last May in the pre-trial intervention program — a form of probation that diverts people from actual prosecution — but her application was denied.
