from www.news4jax.com – A former teacher at Beauclerc Elementary accused of having sex with a teenage boy she was tutoring pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Kristina Hartless, 40, was charged with three counts of sexual battery on a minor when she was arrested last December.
The judge sentenced Hartless to 13 month in prison and five years probation as sex offender. The judge also ordered her not to have any direct or indirect contact with the victim and to undergo pysho-sexual counseling.
She is also to have no unsupervised contact with children, not to live within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare center and not work or volunteer where children congregate.
Court documents released by the state attorney’s office outline how prosecutors said the teacher and boy had been secretly texting each other and chatting on Facebook for months.
Hartless, who taught fifth-grade, was arrested after the teen boy’s mother told police she discovered the tryst between her son and his tutor, according to the documents. The teen did not attend the school but was being tutored by Hartless, a church counselor and married mother of three.
The documents outline thousands of text messages between Hartless and the boy, whose age was not released, in which they talked about their relationship.
According to the documents, one text message conversation reads:
Teen: “I love you.”
Hartless: “I love you too!! Soooo much. I’m so glad we had some time together tonight. We needed that!!”
Teen: “We really did.”
Hartless: “I can’t wait until we have some real alone time ;).”
Teen: “I know, me too.”
Another text message conversation describes what the two really wanted to do, the documents indicate.
Hartless: “I’m getting real tired. But I don’t want to stop talking to you!!”
Teen: “Me too, but I’m about to fall asleep.”
Hartless: “Then let’s go to bed together!!”
Teen: “OK, with a proper good night.”
And, according to the documents, another text message conversation reads:
Teen: “I have to have you!!!”
Hartless: “And I will let you have me!! Over and over again.”
Teen: “Fresh start with you and me in a new country please. Soon!!!”
Hartless: “Oh I wish!!! I pray!!! I hope for that to happen.”
Teen: “I need it to.”
Hartless: “You know what I really wish?”
Teen: “What?”
Hartless: “Is that we could be together and everyone would accept it. That it wouldn’t matter. We would just (be) another couple. No hiding. No running. No worrying.”
According to a police report, Hartless said she liked feeling needed and was flattered by the attention.
The two first denied having sex but then later admitted they did, according to the report.
Hartless knew what she was doing was wrong, according to the documents, and she told the boy at one point how serious it would be if they got caught.
According to the documents, Hartless said it was killing her not to be able to talk to the boy, but she said they would get through this, adding that they had to play by the rules.
