Think it’s just coincidence that this bill gets passed and the feds are now scoping out 2257?
WASHINGTON — Today the House granted final passage to H.R. 4472, the “Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act.” The House’s display of overwhelming support comes less than a week after the Senate offered unanimous consent to pass the bill. The bill now goes to the president for his signature which is expected this Thursday. Tom McClusky, Family Research Council’s vice president for government affairs issued the following statement:
“Statistics show the disturbing reality that children are vulnerable prey to some of the most violent criminal offenders in our society. This week’s action taken by Congress will provide America’s families with additional security against these criminals and their heinous acts.
“The National Sex Offender Registry created in this bill and the public database to accompany the registry will help law enforcement and families track convicted sex offenders as they enter our communities and cross state lines. The high recidivism rate for sex offenders necessitates parents knowing when their neighbors have committed acts of sexual violence in the past. A parent’s knowledge helps to ensure their child’s safety in the future.
“The legislation commits to national memory children who have fallen victim to acts of violence and sexual crimes. These victims represent the most vulnerable among us, children who deserve every protection the law can provide. Our prayers remain with the thousands of families who have dealt with the tragedy inflicted by sex offenders.
“I strongly commend the leadership of the House and the Senate, as well as Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), who were committed to crafting a bill that was both substantive and effective. I look forward to the President signing this legislation into law as we recognize the 25th anniversary of the death of Adam Walsh.”
