Houston – According to a story reported in the Houston Chronicle, City Councilwoman Pam Holm, a former schoolteacher, has issues with the fact that Houston’s libraries are stocking Jenna Jameson’s best seller, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale. Jameson’s book details some of her exploits in the adult industry and includes nude photos.
According to the Chronicle story, Holm during a city council meeting this week, demanded that the Robinson-Westchase Library branch in her west Houston district remove the book from its best seeler display site.
Stating that there was a fine line between Jameson’s book being a best seller and porn, Holm, who has not read the book, said she would not support porn and make it accessible to children. Holm was made aware of the book’s availabolity through an angry constituent.
Holm said she wants the book removed immediately from the prominent display, and wants the library system to consider whether the book should be banished from its collection or banned from children.
Holm also thinks that Houston’s libraries should have a system of rating books and implement a review process to determine their suitability for children. Books that don’t meet that criteria should be deniedd access to children. Meanwhile, the library reports that it bought 12 copies of the Jameson book back in October and that it’s on consistent loan. Library spokeswoman said that a review process for books is under way and that the library uses filtering devices to block youths from having access to pornographic materials on the Internet.
