Industry a Little Too Public?

Sean from www.pornlegends.com responds to the “untitled” rant posted by Wankus on AdultFYI.com [https://adultfyi.com/read.aspx?ID=3320]:

Are you saying that the people in the industry should act more “professional?”

I’m a big fan of Jim Holliday’s book, Only The Best. In the book, it has a credo written by the Adult Film Association of America (AFAA). I have no idea if this group is still in existence, but AFAA long recognized the responsibilities of adult film makers to the general public. Along with the obvious fact that the industry does not condone child pornography and that only people of legal age should view, and take part in the production of, adult entertainment, it also lists the following statement. See if it applies to the industry today: “That we will respect the privacy of the general public in our advertising and public displays.” Has the industy done this? I’ll give you the answer on a five-story billboard in New York City.

If I may rant for a moment – Shortly after the mention of “condoms-only” I’ve noticed several companies and individuals saying that if this was mandated, sales would plummet and that it would destroy the fans “fantasy” or even drive the industry underground. Maybe this is true. But how would those companies feel about “condoms-only” if Cal-OSHA, or some other government agency, deemed the adult actors employees, thus putting the responsibility on those companies to pay for the actors medical bills?

Duh, we’ll move to Vegas? Great. And what is the state’s policy on whorehouses in Nevada? “Condoms-only.” How easy do you think it would be for Nevada to place adult productions under the same umbrella as the current whorehouse regulations? I’ll give you the answer on the “Tonight Show.”

Now, you are a football fan. I’m sure you’ve heard about when a player has a career-ending injury, that player gets an injury settlement from his team. What kind of “injury settlement” does someone in this industry get now when they get HIV as a result of performing in a production? I’ll give you this answer on the “Howard Stern Show.”

And finally, why is it so surprising to many actors that some of the major companies are not giving them more support in the crisis? Is it because the companies know that the actors are easily replaced? I’ll give you that answer in the funny pages.

Thanks,
