from www.mobile-ent.biz – It’s the result of Apple’s crackdown on adult apps, but Mobile Services is undaunted
Mobile adult content firm Mobile Services says Apple’s recent crackdown on adult iPhone apps saw its revenues plummet at a stroke. So to speak.
“Mobile Services grossed $1.2 million dollars from its erotic applications in 2009,” managing partner Ozzy Markham tells trade site XBIZ (link NSFW). “That number dropped to zero after they were all suddenly removed without warning.”
The company laid off 70% of its full-time staff, and switched to a different strategy for getting its content to iPhone users: web apps.
It’s just launched a site called xPornApp, which offers 20,000 movies across 40 different categories. Users are encouraged to bookmark the site on their iPhone homescreen, so it looks like an app.
“Sometimes I get the impression that Apple is scared of sex,” says head of marketing Alex Callahan.
