WWW- Adult-film star and entrepreneur Jenna Jameson has a way of getting what she wants. Scottsdale-based Club Jenna Inc., the company she runs with her husband, Jay Grdina, is a burgeoning porn empire with international reach. But her latest project – renovating Babe’s Cabaret, a south Scottsdale strip club – has drawn substantial concern from neighbors and city officials who would like to see Scottsdale strip clubs shut down. This week, Jameson agreed to an e-mail interview with the Scottsdale Republic, making her first public remarks on the subject since moving to acquire Babe’s.
Was there a reason you chose this particular location to be the first of your Club Jenna venues?
I love Phoenix and enjoy it as my home, so it is only natural to look to open a club in my hometown. I am really excited about the location and am looking forward to having a new look that draws a nice high-end adult Scottsdale crowd, both men and women.advertisement
Some neighbors have said they’re worried about the changes you have planned and may protest. Are their fears justified?
I always look at both sides and totally understand their fears of the unknown. Whenever there is any type of adult stigma surrounding the fear, the worst is always assumed. If anything, the neighbors should be happy that I am involved. If you know anything about me or my career, you would know that I strive for the best and most mainstream path. There is never anything tawdry or seedy about anything I do.
Will Club Jenna be any different for the neighborhood than Babe’s has been for years?
It will be a first-class club; cleaner, nicer, invariably drawing a higher-end crowd. I want to have harmony in the community and am more likely to listen to what the concerns of the community are than owners in the past. I would have no problem speaking with the neighbors to quiet any fears they might have. The last thing I want is to do anything that would disrupt the community. I can’t really see them having too many new concerns considering the club has been in existence for almost 20 years, and we only aim to improve it!
City leaders have made it clear they’d like to see all strip clubs disappear from Scottsdale. Do you feel threatened by that?
I believe in the First Amendment and do not like seeing anyone trying to infringe upon it. We look forward to running a great, clean club for adults to enjoy. It will always be a fight between the ultraconservatives and the liberals of the community. It’s funny how I am always the one getting threatened, when I never impose and/or project my views or beliefs onto anyone.
Do you expect you’ll be able to reach a compromise with them?
I really don’t know what the compromise would be about. Are they mad because my name is on the club? Would it be different if Pam Anderson’s name was on it?
