CONROE, Texas — Officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff Department in Texas arrested Kendra Sunderland earlier this month for possession of less than one ounce of THC.
Sunderland was arrested on Aug. 1, although the incident was first reported by gossip news site TMZ over the weekend.
According to TMZ, the popular performer also known as Library Girl was arrested by law enforcement from the Greater Houston-area county “in broad daylight — a little past high noon on August 1, and prosecutors say she had less than one gram of THC. Cops aren’t saying what led to her bust.”
“I’ve been advised not to say anything,” Sunderland, a Nevada resident, told the gossip site. “I’m not trying to incriminate myself any further. I just know that I’m not a criminal. I’m just a stoner.”
Possession of marijuana is still illegal in Texas. To put the amount of weed Sunderland was busted over in perspective, things that weigh an ounce or less include a common house key, a postage stamp, up to 10 pennies or 30 paperclips.
Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson is a staunch Republican who was endorsed by a local columnist during this year’s reelection campaign as someone “who is not afraid to pray in public” and “is unapologetically conservative and Christian.”
Sunderland was released from custody after posting a $1,000 bond and her next court day is next month.
