Our source in the nation’s capital scoops this hot, breaking story: X-rated video mogul Mark Kulkis, who escorted porn star Mary Carey to last month’s GOP dinner with President Bush, has found a new interest: CNN Washington producer Kathy Benz.
“Mark’s a wonderful guy and I think this could be the real thing,” Benz tells girlfriends. The two only met a month ago during an interview while Kulkin (40), president and CEO of Kick Ass Pictures, was in DC for the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual President’s Dinner. He’s honorary chairman of the NRCC’s Business Advisory Council, a oundtable of millionaire entrepreneurs.
Despite the distance between Kulkin’s Los Angeles mansion and Benz’ designer apartment in Washington’s hot downtown area, Penn Quarter, the two talkseveral times a day and are quite smitten.
Benz, 35, is known in Washington power circles for dating such figures as venture capitalist Jonathan Ledecky (now trying to buy the Washington Nationals), Univ. of Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams, and Democratic superlawyer Julian Epstein – and spent a few days last August with Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin at his Hamptons home.
Benz denies she’s been cozying up to Kulkin to get a scoop for CNN about what was said at the private lunch he and Carey had with White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove. No word on whether Benz will appear in any of Kulkin’s upcoming features.

Gene sez: Kulkis tells me that he and Benz are phone pals, that they met in Washington and that Benz showed up to the celebrated Mary Carey press conference last month. Other than that, says Kulkis, there’s nothing to the story and it certainly didn’t come from him. Kulkis said he was particularly amused about references to his so-called mansion. Kulkis says he and Benz do have mutual friends out here.
