Studio City – from www.ktla.com — A request by Los Angeles Councilmember Paul Krekorian to introduce a $75,000 reward for information on a 9-year-old double murder involving two men, a Playboy model, and a $70,000 collection of jewelry was approved Friday morning.
On Sept. 2, 2002, 35-year-old Michael Tardio, a part-time model and Garden of Eden doorman, of Los Angeles, and his friend Christopher Monson, 31, of Culver City, were found dead in a burning Mercedes Benz SUV in the 11600 block of Woodbridge Street in Studio City.
The vehicle was still on fire when police arrived. The men were shot before the fire was set, police said.
North Hollywood police Detective Dennis English, now in charge of the cold case, said the pair were trying to sell $70,000 worth of jewelry for Tardio’s girlfriend, model Sandy Bentley [pictured].
Bentley was reportedly given the jewelry by an ex-boyfriend, Wall street trader, Mark Yagalla, linked to a 2002 Ponzi scheme.
Investigators hope that the large reward will help to solve the cold case.
