from www.technology.gather.com – The latest infection to hit Facebook is the “Funniest Condom Commercial” scam.
What better mix of topics could there be to sucker you into an innocent click than humor and sex?
The goal is to trick users into clicking on a link which then starts a chain reaction of events which will annoy your friends by spreading the spam to them.
Pretty amusing, the latest Facebook scam has a Funniest Condom Commercial theme. Perhaps it should teach us all to be more selective where and when we click on social media?
If you are about to click on something, the simple answer is simply to think before you react. If the link is not something you normally would receive from the person who appears to be sending it, simply send them a message asking if they sent it. Sometimes waiting just a few hours allows time to pass, and scams come and go.
Much like the scam that hit Facebook a few weeks ago, the scammers get you to think this is just another silly little link sent to you by one of your friends.
While Facebook continues to put safeguards in place, the tricksters somehow keep getting through. So far, the main problem has been nothing more than annoying spam, and a little embarrassment.
With concerns cropping up everyday about spamming and scamming, many users will always see Facebook as a silly social club, rather than the educational forum for middle and elementary school children envisioned by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
