As someone who works in the HIV/AIDS field, I have been fascinated by the coverage and comments made in light of the recent and unfortunate circumstances surrounding the infection of Mr. Darren James, Lara Roxx, Jessica Dee and the transsexual performer known as Jennifer.

I have been reading with much fascination, the opinions expressed by writers, reporters and adult performers about how, when whom and where these individuals were infected. But I think in all of the coverage, there is something that is missing. COMPASSION.

Whatever reasons these entertainers elected to become Adult performers is neither here nor there. The fact is, these human beings have become part of a community that has been ostracized and condemned.

Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, Gay men were scorned and shut out from friends, family and loved ones because of a lack of education. Knowing what we know now about HIV/AIDS, we know that it is 100% preventable. Knowledge is power.

However, in articles that I have viewed and read, the focus has been on the behavior of these individuals. WHO CARES? Society has shown over and over that the emphasis is not on the individual but on the behavior and the act that lead to this unfortunate situation.

It is also my hope that these individuals will be treating with the same amount of love and compassion now, as they received when production companies, directors and producers alike were loving and compassionate towards them prior to their diagnosis.

I am just another HIV positive, who understands and share in the life altering experience this will bring to them.

Let’s forget about the who, the when, the where and the why. Let’s focus of providing support, friendship and love to these performers.
