from www.radiotimes.com – It was the topic for one of his earliest and most memorable Weird Weekends and now Louis Theroux has revisited the US porn industry for a new documentary, which he hopes will see transmission on BBC2 in March.
Theroux, 41, commented on his official Facebook page that “it’s been fascinating to see how much it’s changed. Free porn on the web has decimated the profit margins. The industry is struggling – it’s like the music industry times a hundred. Performers earn less”.
Back in 1998, viewers saw Theroux head to Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley to spend time with both men and women who get paid to have sex on camera. Returning to the same locale for a 2012 follow-up has given him the opportunity to get reacquainted with some of the performers – including main subject JJ Michaels – who he encountered over a decade ago.
“I liked the idea of following up with the characters from the first film,” Theroux admitted on his blog.
“I’ve always enjoyed ‘where are they now?’ stories – and with porn especially, I’ve wondered what happens to the legions of performers who do time in the business: what do they do with the rest of their lives? How do they feel about what they’ve done? Do they have kids and if so, how do they explain about their past?”
