NY – from www.longislandpress.com – The magician disappeared.
With jury selection set to begin in his pornography trial in Riverhead Tuesday, magician and clown Robert Infantino failed to appear in court, courthouse sources said.
A judge had set a $2 million bond for Infantino who called himself “Long Island’s Favorite Magician.” He failed to appear for the start of his trial on child pornography and other charges.
Suffolk County prosecutors say Infantino was apprehended by a fugitive task force at a Bethpage hospital early Wednesday. An arrest warrant was issued a day earlier.
His wrists were bandaged when he appeared before a judge later Wednesday.
Infantino has pleaded not guilty to charges he secretly videotaped 19 women and girls in a photo studio dressing room at his Central Islip home. An earlier indictment charged him with 78 counts of possessing child pornography. He had been free on $300,000 bail.
Infantino’s attorney did not immediately return a call for comment, but previously said his client was innocent.
