She may not be lapping the recall field, but adult film actress Mary Carey had an opinion Wednesday about a new city ordinance that bars physical contact between exotic dancers and their customers.
“It’s just wrong,” said the 22-year-old, whose real name is Mary Cook. “I love getting lap dances. Who doesn’t?”
After months of debate, the City Council Tuesday unanimously approved tougher restrictions on strip clubs and bikini bars, including banning all bodily contact between dancers and customers, VIP rooms and direct tipping.
Supporters of the ban said the clubs are breeding grounds for illicit activity, including drug use and prostitution.
“The prostitution is just going to happen more,” said Carey, who has appeared at strip clubs but does not do lap dances. “The ban’s ridiculous.”
Carey, one of the more than 100 lesser-known contenders running for governor, has been calling for a seat in the Sept. 24 candidate debate organized by the California Broadcasters Association.
The broadcasters’ group has said the debate is only for the top six qualified candidates.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of them. Earlier Wednesday, shock jock Howard Stern asked the Republican candidate about the Los Angeles lap-dance issue. Schwarzenegger said he had no response, because it is a local issue.
