From www.wbal.com- The Maryland University system Board of Regents will be talking smut today.
On the agenda for the meeting is a possible policy on the showing of pornographic movies on the campuses of the more than a dozen state related schools.
The discussion follows the recent firestorm over the screening at College Park of the triple-x rated movie Pirates II: Stagnetti’s Revenge.
One official said the purpose was to give students an alternative to drinking.
The first planned showing at the Hoff Theatre in the student union building was cancelled by President C. D. Mote after a state lawmaker threatened to cut off funding.
The showing was re-scheduled two days later in a lecture hall, with discussion by faculty and representatives of the ACLU.
About 200 students attended the screening last Monday which included excerpts, not the full length movie.
State Senator Andy Harris criticized the decision to show the movie, threatening to cut off funding if the Regents did not develop a policy on showing hard core pornography.
