Posted on www.sexwrecks.com: Ever-heroic DVD powerhouse Blue Underground has gone even more blue and deeper underground than anyone might have expected. The company’s new off-shoot, NY After Midnight, is dedicated to the digital preservation and spanking new distribution of the legendary Manhattan public-access cable-TV series Midnight Blue, the broadcast appendage of the filth empire overseen by Screw magazine founder Al Goldstein.
First up is Midnight Blue: The Deep Throat Special Edition, which culls interviews with numerous personalities directly intertwined with the 1972 hardcore classic. Spanning from 1975 to 1987, highlights include talks with Deep Throat, www.xxxdeepthroat.com,director Gerard Damiano, star Harry Reems, and, astonishingly, the late Chuck Traynor, the ex-husband, ex-manager, and alleged ex-rougher-upper of Throat’s titular suction-siren, Linda Lovelace. Even more mind-and-wad-blowing is the striptease and eye-opening interview with Deep Throat co-star Carol Connors, who reveals every inch of her voluptuous super-’70s physique–including the bushy blonde portal from whence contemporary Hollywood starlet Thora Birch (Carol’s real-life daughter) once emerged–along with the fact that she once provided her German shepherd with manual release to relieve his tension. That lucky dog.
Still, our favorite aspect of this amazing disc are the uncut ’70s and ’80s NYC sex-biz commercials, affably amateurish promos for elaborate prostitution clubs done up in garish Roman and tiki motifs, along with a discount Times Square porn theater and some primitive phone-sex shilling. So far, Midnight Blue: The Deep Throat Special Edition is SexWrecks.com’s pick for the DVD to beat in 2005. As always, “beat”, indeed, is the operative term.
