It doesn’t stop your heart (neither does a sneeze, that was only proven wrong about a hundred years ago, which says a lot about your education Otto…but I digress) what it does is, it cuts off the flow of oxygen to the persons brain, usually by compression of the carotid artery and sometimes by not breathing. When this happens, particularly in the case of the carotid artery the person is only seconds from death. The brain starts shutting down everything.

And everytime it happens part of the brain is forever destroyed, this is exactly what happens when someone has a major stroke.
