Miss Arroyo Phones It In-update

Porn Valley- Miss Arroyo was scheduled to be at KSEX, www.ksexradio.com, Monday night, but she calls Wankus. She tells him she’s not coming on his show because she’s moving to Florida. But if she changes her mind, she’ll call him. Huh? That’s what Wankus, thought, too. So he calls Arroyo to ask what gives. The extent of the conversation finds Arroyo, one of the industry women who came down with HIV earlier this year, conceding to a phone interview.

Did Arroyo bag on anyone as she did this past June during an outburst recorded by the national media? Her KSEX comments could have been written by The Republican National Committee. So what does that tell ya?

Wankus noted that Arroyo’s is the first public interview with a performer who was affected by the HIV crisis. She was applauded for coming on the show and speaking publicly. “But I’m a little ticked off that no one else did before you. By speaking tonight is very helpful,” he told her. “We’re learning from you right now.”

With Arroyo on the phone, Wankus casually reminded her that she was supposed to have been in the studios and paraphrased her cockeyed message. Arroyo said she decided on the move to Florida a couple of days ago [where she’ll be dancing and doing photo shoots].

“I’ve been running around trying to get all my stuff together,” she explained. “It’s kind of overwhelming.” Arroyo said the move was sad in some ways because she loves L.A. “I love everybody. I love my job. I love my experience. I love retiring.” There was a lot of love in the room, as you could imagine. According to Arroyo, everything was just hunky dory with her. Laughing, Wankus wondered why she’d move to a state that was no longer there, that there was yet another hurricane on the way. This, of course, is coming from a man who’s heading to Florida to attend a football game without Ricky Williams in it.

That being said, Arroyo imagined that everyone in the industry was laughing at her because she flaked on Wankus. “So I’m looking really stupid on the phone right now,” she said. “You say I’m going to get wiped out when I get there?” Wankus, in a forgiving mood, reminded Arroyo of the last time she was on his show when she offered to suck his dick.

For those living in a cave, Wankus brought them up to speed with Arroyo’s story. “I’m doing absolutely marvelous,” said Arroyo, sounding like an old Billy Crystal bit from Saturday Night Live.

According to Arroyo, her viral load is in the low hundreds. “My new T-cells are like 700 or something. That’s good.” More astounding is the fact that Arroyo’s on no HIV medication. “It’s me eating good and exercising,” she said. “It’s a good possibility that a test could actually possibly come up negative. I’m not saying I don’t have HIV. I do have HIV and will have HIV for the rest of my life. I need to practice safe sex. This needs to be an open discussion. But if you take good care of yourself and get your viral load down real low, then it’s not so scary.”

Arroyo said she could still have babies. “Isn’t that cute?” According to her, there’s a 99.9% chance that a child would come up negative. “I could be blessed with a gorgeous family.”

Arroyo’s pretty much kicking back and just hanging out with people. “I’ve learned a lot- I’ve grown a lot,” she says. Arroyo is saying that she thinks all of this is a blessing. “I’m a strong performer and I think I’m a strong person, and I love everybody. I hope everybody learned from this experience.” Arroyo said Jessica Dee was an incredible performer. “I couldn’t think of anybody better to retire with.”

Arroyo sounded like she was happy to be leaving a legacy of “100 crazy movies out there,” and gave an impression that she might have been leaving anyway, judging by how crazy the business was getting. “If somebody said put a fist in your asshole and bark like a dog I don’t think I would have done it.” On the other hand, Arroyo kept stressing that she had the time of her life and was very grateful. I love everybody so much. I love you guys and I’m happy to still be a part of the family.”

With her mention of the porn family, Wankus was curious just how the family was reacting to all this. “Do you have a good mix of people that are supportive and other people that don’t even want to shake your hand or give you a hug?”

“I don’t think anyone hasn’t wanted to give me a hug,” Arroyo feels. She talked about getting responses that would indicate that some people might have wanted to date her before-the-fact. “But now it’s too late.” Other instances she ascribes to a possible miscommunication where people might not know how she’d respond to them.

According to Arroyo, she’s very excited about a project she did for Glamour Magazine. “It’s the British edition,” she explained. “The magazine is out in England. It’s a layout of me after I got diagnosed. I’m wearing clothes. I’m totally professional. It was really cute and so cool.” Arroyo said it comes out today and the article says positive things about the industry. “I had a great experience.”

“Take me to the day you got the call,” Wankus asked her. Remembering the day she was put on quarantine after working with Darren James, Arroyo said she was sitting in Katie Morgan’s house. “I was crying. All I wanted to do was be a big person. If anything happens to me I just want to carry the world; I want to take all this away.”

Arroyo said she just instantly wanted to help others. “I became the biggest lover.” After she cried it out, Arroyo said she stood up. “I can take this.” Arroyo’s friends told her, no, she was negative. “I totally believed everybody,” she said. “I forgot about it. Then when they told me I was diagnosed, I was okay with it, to be honest. It’s fine. I took it like a champ. I’ve been taking it like a champ.”

Arroyo said she’s learned to fall in love with her HIV. “Me and my HIV were like two peas in a pod.” Arroyo stresses that you have to love yourself. Strangely, one of the first thoughts going through her mind was that she was never going to be able to wear stockings again. “I kept telling the whole world to fuck it. I thought I was never going to be able to wear a corset again. I thought I was ugly.” Arroyo thought she was tainted. “I was, like, I can’t take my clothes off in front of anybody ever again. I have HIV.”

Her counselors laughed at those notions, according to Arroyo. “I had great doctors- great counselors,” she said. “They talked me through it.” It was then that Arroyo began grabbing her breasts, realizing that nothing had really changed. “Everybody clapped and everything came together good.”

Wankus said there had been concerns among people close to Arroyo that she considered suicide. Arroyo said that was true. “Honestly, yes. Hello- kind of. I think you say things when you’re, emotionally, crawling on the ground,” she said.

Noting the stages of her growth since then, Arroyo said she’s cried on the floor before. “I know how to work from the floor up and do it with a little bit of dignity and self respect. It can be emotionally devastating when you put 110% in and you get HIV. Whatever.” Arroyo’s first reactions were her being honest, she said. “I guess I never knew how much I loved my job.” Arroyo says she was so ignorant to HIV that she thought she wasn’t human any more. “You mean to tell me I can’t fuck somebody in the corner? But that’s okay because I didn’t do too much fucking in the corner anyway. It just sounds good, huh?”

Arroyo was asked if there was anyone she was still angry at, or feels they’ve wronged her. “No- I don’t think anybody wronged me,” she answered. “But it’s not my place to defend the entire industry. It’s a low blow when you find out the honesty of it. But it’s a good package deal with a good story at the end of it,” she adds. “I have a future and a life. It’s the same life I still have to earn it. I still have to deserve it and feel proud of it. Which is good. Growing and learning are something I never wan to stop doing.”

Wankus mentioned the June incident where Arroyo, before the news media, lashed out at AIM Healthcare. She was asked if she still feels animosity towards the way AIM handled the situation. “I don’t think it’s good to carry any kind of animosity,” she stated, noting that it wouldn’t be healthy for her to do that, anyway.

“Who wants to be upset all day?” Arroyo, however, acknowledged that it was quite a group of girls to knock out in one swing. “On the positive side I just hope that people care a little bit more.” For her part, Arroyo said she wasn’t upset at AIM. “I think AIM does serve a purpose. Everyone serves a purpose. Everyone has a reason for wanting to be here. It would be nice to have everyone sit down and agree; or let the performers also agree to disagree.” To that extent, Arroyo feels that some situations have been taken care of since then. “They’re good people.”

It was Wankus’ opinion that life has resumed in the adult industry, and, perhaps too comfortably. “Where it’s almost a forgive and forget type of thing.” Among the thoughts she’s gathered, Arroyo said she wasn’t necessarily for eliminating hardcore. “I still believe in not using condoms. But I believe in choosing who is capable of doing that job,” she said. “Not everybody should just be thrown in that.”

Arroyo was also asked to venture an opinion as to who might have brought the virus into the mix. “You can only get it using needles and having gay sex,” Arroyo answerd coyly. “Maybe someone’s not willing to admit what they were doing. I didn’t bring it on to me.” Arroyo suggested someone be honest about the fact they’re taking it in the ass and shooting dope. But she wasn’t going to point fingers.

Arroyo again stressed how she was grateful for the things she has, so she wasn’t going to carry around that pique.

“It’s just not worth it,” she commented. “This person has HIV for life. I know what it feels like to not feel attractive and to be walking around with something. It doesn’t help to belittle somebody that I know how he already feels. That’s not right. That doesn’t make me any better.” Arroyo also said she was grateful for the Christmases she’s been able to spend with her family.

As a word of caution, Arroyo pointed out that when you enter the adult industry, you enter on your own. “I was promiscuous before I got here,” she said. “I’m glad I caught it on film instead of a one-night stand. I already have so many unimpressive stories when I come home.”

Asked to lend advice to newbies in the industry, Arroyo said you’ve got to be mindful that things can go wrong. “It’s part of the responsibility of the job- either you have a certain stomach to survive here or you’re kind of crazy. We’re all praying basically together.” Arroyo said, trutfully, she wouldn’t know how to help a new girl and didn’t feel educated enough on some subjects to do so.

When Wankus brought up the issue of the need to check tests, Arroyo said she did that with Darren James. “I checked Darren James’ test. It said negative.”
