Athens, Georgia- It’s now official
The beer has stopped flowing at two Athens strip clubs that have been fighting for years to keep serving alcohol and nude dancers.
The clubs, Chelseas and Toppers International Showbar, aren’t licensed to sell alcohol in 2004 even they’re still trying to get a judge to force the government to issue them liquor licenses.
Toppers held last call at midnight on New Years and will remain alcohol-free, said Toppers attorney Jeff Rothman.
Judge Steve Jones faxed an order Friday prohibiting the bars from selling alcohol at least until a Monday hearing.
Local laws ban strip clubs from selling alcohol.
But the clubs have been arguing against the alcohol bans in court, claiming the intent was to eliminate nude dancing, which is considered free speech protected by the constitution.
