[citizenlink.org] The Department of Justice doesn’t accept obscenity complaints directly. Instead, it directs people to register their concerns at the Morality in Media Web site ObscenityCrimes.org. More than 70,000 complaints have been logged over six years — without one prosecution.
“To our knowledge, the Justice Department has not acted on a single complaint,” said Bob Peters, president of Morality in Media. “That is just simply beyond comprehension.”
The Department of Justice refused to comment for this story.
Tom Rodgers, a former Indianapolis police detective, said ignoring complaints is unacceptable.
“As a police officer, I was sworn to uphold the law. If I wasn’t doing my job, someone above me would get my attention quickly,” he said. “And I would probably be fired.”
