MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Senior students from one South Florida high school shared the same venue with a porn convention on prom night.
Students from Miami Beach Senior High were dressed to the nines on Saturday night as they attending prom at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Dresses and bow ties were spotted as students filed into the venue, but next door there was a different kind of dress code. Lingerie, feathers and stilettos were prominent at Exxxotica; an event sharing the convention center. “Exxxotica is the largest event in the country dedicated to love and sex,” said John Handy, Exxxotica founder.
Exxxotica made its triumphant return to Miami Beach this weekend, including on prom night. “The date of this show was announced and it was online, I think, for almost a year,” said adult film star Joanna Angel. “It’s been around for a while.”
Since high school students and anything triple X don’t mix, the Exxxotica director says it certainly wasn’t going to happen on prom night. “We have a strict event that does 18 and over for general admission. Certainly nothing really we’ve thought much of or worried much about. We’ve always been strict enforcers of it and today is no different,” said Handy.
“We’re just here to do a job, to hang out with our fans,” said Angel. “We have no idea what’s going on across the street.”
School officials were also confident that students would enjoy their prom night with no x-rated extracurricular activities. “We have hired police officers. We’re working together with the Miami Beach Convention Center to make sure that they have their security in place as well. We have over forty teachers helping and volunteering to make sure we have an excellent prom,” said Gwen Zaldivar, activities director. “The parents feel comfortable and they feel safe as well.”
School officials say they prefer to hold prom at the convention center rather than a hotel to prevent students from getting their hands on alcohol.
