from www.nydailynews.com – Parents at a Florida elementary school are up in arms after a Hooters waitress was brought in to talk about her job to a group of special needs kids during a career event.

“It’s just the wrong message,” Ashley Dominicci, 32, whose son is a sixth-grader at Calvin A. Hunsinger School in Clearwater, told the St. Petersburg Times.

“I feel like we’re telling them (the students) that you’re the bad kids, and this is all you’ll be in life.”

Dominicci said she wasn’t knocking the busty wing-slingers – “They’re very hard-working,” she said — but that she thought students at the school should set higher goals for themselves.

School principal Stephani Bessette told Dominicci in an email that the point of waitress Brittany Morgan’s [pictured right] appearance was to show that working at a restaurant was a good way to pay for college, the Times reported.

“Working as a waiter or waitress in order to achieve higher goals should be commended,” Bessette wrote, according to the Times.

Morgan said she understood why parents might be upset, but that there wasn’t anything inappropriate about her talk.

Besides, she left the hot pants and tank top at home.

“Most of us are going to school,” Morgan told the Times. “We’re aspiring to do other things in life. This isn’t our career.”

Earlier this month, parents at a California elementary school were similarly outraged after porn star Sasha Grey read a book a group of first- and -third grade students during a literacy event.

One parent was left less than inspired when she found out that a waitress from Hooters was brought into the class as one of the role models.

‘It’s just the wrong message,’ said mother Ashley Dominicci.

Hooters waitress Brittany Morgan, 23, was careful to change out of the famed restaurant’s trademark short orange shorts and low-cut tops and into a conservative sweater and sweat pants before speaking to the children of the Calvin A. Hunsinger School on Thursday.

‘Most of us [Hooters waitresses] are going to school. We’re aspiring to do other things in life. This isn’t our career,’ Ms Morgan said.

This incident comes just days after California parents were outraged to learn that actress and retired porn star Sasha Grey was able to volunteer to read to young children at a public school in Compton.

Though a waitress may be seen as a less distinguished career than a retired army general- who came into a different Florida school through the same Great American Teach-in program just a week earlier- school officials think that the profession should not be disregarded by parents.

The St. Petersburg Times reports that the school’s principal told Ms Dominicci as much in an email after her complaint.

The cat-fight continued as Ms Dominicci felt that her point was being missed.

‘I’m not knocking waitresses. They’re very hard-working. My point is, these kids should have higher goals,’ said Ms Dominicci, who is a paralegal.

In the past, African drummers, archeologists, and football players have all spoken through the same program at similar schools.

At the Hunsinger school in Clearwater, which teaches 130 students with behavioural and emotional issues, the speakers are organized by a volunteer.

In this school’s case, the volunteer coordinator has two daughters who have worked at the restaurant chain, so she saw it as an appropriate venue.

Ms Morgan was recommended to the school by the Hooter’s corporate office, and she spoke about the legal drinking age, how to order from a menu, and some general rules about proper tipping.

‘I’m confident there was nothing wrong with my presentation,’ she said.
