from www.mrskin.com – Chad Braverman is the COO of Doc Johnson, the country’s biggest sex toy manufacturer located in North Hollywood. For nearly 37 years, Doc Johnson has been bringing gratification to the world, with over 5 million pieces being made in its factory each year.
More importantly, they’re the company behind the Rabbit and the Pocket Rocket, sex toys that sexy celebrities like Jenny McCarthy and Eva Longoria regularly praise in interviews.
We FIRM-ly agree with their mission of bringing the pleasure to the masses, “Give the people what they want”, we always say here at Skin Central. So we asked Chad a few questions about his life in the sex toy trenches, and he gave us some valuable SKINsight into what’s up at Doc:
Skin Central: So, tell us how you got into the sex toy business.
Chad Braverman: I started working at Doc Johnson a little over 9 years ago. It’s our family business; my father is the founder and CEO – the company been in business for nearly 37 years. After graduating with a business degree from the University of Miami, and always planning to join the ranks at Doc Johnson, I started working in licensing and product development. Since then, I’ve moved into progressive responsibilities and am now the Chief Operations Officer.
I handle new product development, oversee much of our sizable staff, manage many of the day-to-day operations of the company, and am involved in the inception and implementation of all major projects. I brought the art department, marketing department, web management, and photography all in-house beginning in 2011. Our expansion and innovations are part of the overall goal to continue Doc Johnson’s growth as a major global presence.
SC: What’s the best part of your job?
CB: The products are amazingly interesting, I love that we get to make people happy. And in particular I enjoy being creative. I get to create new products for the company every quarter; it continually changes and allows me to explore new ideas and concepts.
SC: Are there any professional sex toy testers on staff?
CB: We are all professionals! The truth is that “Sex Toy Tester” is not on anyone’s business cards here at Doc, but we do have a great network of people, inside and outside of Doc that help us to test products for various reasons.
SC: Jenny McCarthy once told Howard Stern that she uses the Pocket Rocket several times per week. Have you gotten shout outs from any other celebrities?
CB: Well, actually Robin Quivers is also a huge fan of the Pocket Rocket and we have sent her a bunch of gift bags in the past thanking her for her support. Bethenny Frankel featured our products on her show and also specifically praised the Pocket Rocket. Eva Longoria has also given an interview where she talked about how much she loved her Rabbit.
SC: Sex toys have become a lot less stigmatized in recent years, what do you think is the driving force behind that?
CB: Popularity. As more people start to understand that sex toys are just products, that these items will make them feel great, and that there is nothing dirty or seedy about toys, the tides continues to change. Sex toys are mainstream now.
SC: What products are most popular with male consumers?
CB: Our most popular men’s products are still the strokers made from our lifelike material, UR3 (Ultra Realistic 3.0). We’ve molded every major star the adult industry has ever had, from Jenna Jameson to Sasha Grey and Belladonna. We have had a 25 year partnership with Vivid Video and we’ve molded every single Vivid contract star during that time. We have, by far, the most extensive catalog of girls in the history of the industry.
SC: Any favorite sex toy scenes in movies?
CB: I just saw Hysteria (2011) for the first time and thought it was fascinating. I am obviously aware of the history, but to see a whole movie based on the “big bang” moment of sex toys was incredible. On a much much darker note, I will never forget the “ass to ass” scene in Requiem for a Dream (2000). That movie in general stuck with me for quite some time.
SC: What’s the first movie and/or TV nude scene you remember seeing?
CB: Porky’s (1982) for sure. The shower scene was the ultimate. My friends and I spent most of our adolescence wondering how we could pull that off. I would also like to give Fast Times (1982) an honorable mention. Everything looks better in slow motion.
SC: What’s your all-time favorite Hollywood nude scene?
CB: Toss up between Basic Instinct (1992) which was life-changing for a 10 year old boy and Gia (1998) which was very time consuming for a 16 year old boy.
SC: Anything else you’d like to add?
CB: I’ve been a fan of Mr. Skin for a long long time. Thanks for having me and keep making “the good parts” so easy to watch!
Thanks, Chad! You can see the entire Doc Johnson catalog, including their line of toys molded directly after popular porn stars like Sasha Grey, Belladonna, Sunny Leone and more over at DocJohnson.com!
