from www.postchronicle.com – Nude Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio wedding ring auction! A nude painting of Marilyn Monroe is set to join her wedding ring from Joe DiMaggio – and the Wizard Of Oz ruby slippers – at an upcoming auction of Hollywood memorabilia set for December 15-17, 2011.
The wedding ring, a platinum band encrusted with 35 baguette-cut diamonds, was put on her ring finger on January 14, 1954. Although it is missing one diamond, the ring is expected to fetch as much as $500,000.
The couple was married for less than a year. Sadly, Monroe died in 1962 (just 8 years after the happy event) at the age of 36; DiMaggio died in 1999 at the age of 84.
A nude painting of Marilyn by artist Earl Moran, done in 1948-49, is expected to bring from $70,000 to $90,000.
The ‘Icons Of Hollywood’ Profiles In History auction will also offer the ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the classic film “The Wizard of Oz”, and may bring as much as $2-3 million!
Besides this, another auction featuring rare snaps of Marilyn Monroe’s first photo shoot are to go under the hammer at a Florida auction later this year (11).
The collection, which contains an image of Monroe posing on the beach in a striped bikini, will be sold off in December (11) to settle the debts of the photographer, Joseph Jasgur, reports the New York Post.
Among the photos are black-and-white head shots of the blonde beauty and several model-release forms signed by the icon in 1946, reports WENN.
Earlier this year, the famous “subway dress”, which billows up with a gust of air as a train rolls by, rose to $5.52 million after taxes and fees were included in a July auction this year, far surpassing pre-sale estimates of $1 million to $2 million, reports Reuters.
